Kristina is the perfect daughter. Then one summer she visits her dad and meets a boy named Adam. He introduces her to the monster: Crank. Aka a type of drug. Kristina is soon home and has to deal with all the consequences. Can she fight the monster?
HOW I FEEL ABOUT THIS BOOK:
I truly love this book. It has told me so much about drugs and what happens. You get to actually know someone who has been touched by it. I felt so bad for Kristina. She should have never said yes to Adam. At the end you feel like Kristina might make the right choice but you realize someone who has touched the monster will never fully escape it. I think everyone should read this book especially those who are thinking of trying drugs. You need to realize that you can't go back once you've gone forward. This book gives the best message about what can really happen.
Hey guys! I know I haven't been doing much on this blog and I feel bad. I'm going to now not ignore this anymore and start posting more reviews. I'm currently reading Crank by Ellen Hopkins right now if you've seen the 'What I'm Currently Reading" side bar.
CHINA!!
I'm going to be leaving for China in about a week and a half. I won't be able to post anything while I'm at China because I won't have access to a computer with internet. :( The really sad thing is that I'm going to be there for 2 MONTHS!!!!! I'm going to be there for the whole summer! I'm leaving June 12 and coming back August 12. If you are a follower please hang in there! I'll be back! It's just going to be on hold for a while. If you are a subscriber to my Youtube channel please go and watch my newest video. It has all the information for China.
I'll try and get at least 1 more review up if I can finish Crank. Thanks for reading this!
This is about a boys named Johnny. He works in a shoe repair shop on South Bech in Miami, Florida. Him and his mom are very poor. Then one day he meets Princess Victoriana from Aloria. She asks Johnny to help her find her brother who has been turned into a frog by a witch. Johnny doesn't believe her but he agrees anyways because he wants something fun to do. Then it goes on with lots of challenges and adventures that go on.
THE PLOT:
I really liked this book a lot. Alex Flinn's writing style is one of my favorites. She uses fairytale stories and mixes it up with a modern twist. I love fairytales because they always make me really happy and it's even better to have it happen in our time because then I'm more familiar with everything that's going on.
THE CHARACTERS:
JOHNNY- I had a few problems with Johnny. I felt like he was a little selfish. He only went on the quest was because he was bored and he would be able to get married to the princess and become rich. I didn't mind it too much since he was trying to help his mom also. Other than that he was a really great male character.
MEG-She is Johnny's best friend. She is a really great friend. She helped Johnny out with his challenges instead of letting him figure everything out himself.
VICTORIANA- She is the princess. At first you think that she's a partier, drinker, buys lots of shoes, and doesn't have a single brain cell. Then into the book you realize she's a really sweet girl that cares a lot about her brother.
This book is a really good one. Definitely check it out if you liked her other stories Beastly and A Kiss In Time. :)
This is about a girl named Riley Blackthorne and her father is an amazing demon trapper. And in this world everyone knows about demon trappers so it's not a secret. Demon trappers hunt demons. One day her dad and his apprentice, Beck go to trap a demon and something was weird. The demons started to pair up so Riley's dad and Beck weren't prepared and Riley's dad dies. Now Riley wants to become a demon trapper more than before. This book goes through Riley's training to become a demon trapper. And also trying to figure out the fact why demons are pairing up.
THE PLOT:
The plot of this book was just amazing! The reason I got this book was because I really enjoy reading about demon hunting stories like the Mortal Instruments series. I liked how everything was plotted in this book. Where there's always something happening in each chapter. The idea of how everything worked was really interesting to read about because Jana Olier made it that this demon book was completely different from others. One thing that made me kind of feeling weird is that Riley likes a boy named Simon. And he says that he's seeing someone and that it's Riley but they never even went on a date. So I felt like Jana Oliver was trying to rush into the romance just to get it over with and she just wanted to get to the action which was amazing.
THE CHARACTERS:
RILEY-She was a brave girl and I thought it was really unfair how her dad died but it's what sets the story up. Now she's living on her own and has to borrow money and her spirit in trying to become a demon trapper was very admiring to read about. I loved how even though she was the only girl in the business she didn't care at all. She wanted to prove that girls could do anything.
BECK-He was an amazing guy. He's a few years older than Riley and he seems like a huge jerk. But when Riley needed him he was there. He helped her with money issues and helped her guard her dad's grave.
SIMON-He is the boy that Riley likes. He's the nice, religious, good boy. He never does anything wrong and I never had a problem with him.
Amazing book that everyone has to read! Especially if they love the Mortal Instruments series!
This book is about a girl named Sophie Mercer. She found out that she is a witch and one day at a dance her magic gets out of hand and her father sends her to Hecate Hall where there are witches, warlocks, fearies, werewolves, shifters, and 1 vampire that becomes her friend and roomate. While she is there she becomes enemies with the 3 most powerful students who are witches, she begans to develop a crush on a warlock named Archer, and something has been attacking the students at Hecate Hall.
THE PLOT: The plot of this was great! I've never really read such a fun, light read that had something serious mixed in. I read this book in 2 days! I just wish that the author made Sophie's emotions a little more believable.
THE CHARACTERS: SOPHIE- She was a great main character. Even though the 3 most powerful witches wanted her to be in their group she said no because it was either them or her vamp friend Jenna and she obviously chose Jenna. No matter what everyone has been saying about Jenna (That she's the one attacking stutdents), Sophie never belived them. One thing I didn't like about her was that the 2nd time she met Archer she knew she was falling in love. Really? I mean you don't exactly fall in love when you're 16 (I think she's 16) when you see the guy the 2nd time. I felt that was a little unbelievable.
ELODIE- She was someone that I did not like at all during the entire story. Even when she was at her nice point I knew there was something about her that just made me hate her. It was everything that she had done.
ARCHER-He really didn't turn out like I thought he would. Though I know that what the book implies is probably going to be cleared in the 2nd book.
This book was great! Definitely go check it out! 5/5 stars!
This book was absolutely amazing! I'm not going to go into details with this since everyone knows about it but I am going to gush about it! This is one of my favorite books of all time right next to Harry Potter. It's definitely a really fun and light read and anyone and I mean anyone will love this book. :)
This book is about a girl named Kat Bishop who is in a family full of con artists including herself. Kat wants out of this family business so she goes to a boarding school. She gets kicked about after about 3 months because of something she supposedly did but she finds out that her friend Hale had something to do with it but he had a good reason to. A powerful mobster's priceless art pieces are missing and he thinks that Kat's father stole them, which isn't true. So now Kat and her group of con artists have to steal the art pieces back from whoever did take them.
THE PLOT:
The plot of this book was genius! I love how it has nothing to do with paranormal. I did have some problems though. The story line was very hard to follow along at a lot of spots in the story. It made me really frustrated because I had to reread most of those sections.
THE CHARACTERS:
KAT- She was great. Everytime she gets into a tough situation she thinks about every little detail so it made her get out of the situation.
HALE- He is Kat's friend. He was a great and loyal friend. He stood by Kat no matter what. Even when Kat gave him a chance he styed by her side.
GABRIELLE- She is Kat's cousin. At first you think you won't like her because she's one of those girls who care more about how they look than anything else. But then at the end you realize if something's important to her she will do anything she can. Apart from the problems I had I really enjoyed this book.
This book is about a prison named Incarceron. This prison is alive. It watches the prisoners. No one has ever escaped from Incarceron. Only one, a legend says has ever escaped. Finn is a prisoner. He believes that he came from Outside Incarceron. He is determined to escape. He finds a crystal key which leads him to Claudia. Claudia is Outside of Incarceron. Her father is the Warden of Incarceron. She also finds a key that leads her to Finn. Claudia and Finn make a deal that if Claudia helps Finn escape than Finn will help Claudia. But they don't realize that there is more to Incarceron than it seems.
THE PLOT:
The plot was very clever. I loved how Catherine Fisher made Incarceron alive. How she described Outside Incarceron and Inside Incarceron. She made the entire story and characters believable even though we know that a place like Incarceron doesn't exist. She still makes it seem like it exists.
CHARACTERS:
CLAUDIA: She was very brave. She did all she could to find out more about Incarceron and to help Finn. She broke all her fathers rules to do that.
FINN: I admired Finn. He did everything he could to try and escape. He never gave up. That is something that I would never be able to do. I would have long given up.
This book was amazing. And just so you know there is no romance in here. This book is a full 5/5 stars. :)
This book is about a girl named Eddie Reeves. Her father had just commited suicide. When he does, Eddie is heartbroken She wants to know why he would commit suicide when he had a loving family and was a legendary photographer. Then she meets Culler Evans, a former student of her father. He seems to know more about her father than Eddie does. Eddie seems to think that Culler knows the answer to why her father killed himself.
THE PLOT:
The plot of this book was very depressing I have to say. There was a lot of emotions running high in the air. You could feel the saddness. I couldn't help but get sucked up into this story line. I just wish that Courtney Summers added more to the book. It got kind of boring at times just reading about Eddie beeing depressed about her father.
CHARACTERS:
EDDIE: I wasn't a big fan of Eddie. She seemed like everyone should be feeling sorry for her because her dad died. She would get upset when people seemed to ignore that fact. She would be ignoring her friend Milo because he was hanging out with his ex-girlfriend Missy. She was also obsessed with the question why would her father kill himself. Every page would have the word Why. I didn't like her very much through out the story but she did have some good parts in the story.
MILO: I also had some problems with Milo. He wouldn't tell Eddie anything about her father's death. He should tell her because he was Eddie's father. And when he did tell Eddie, it was like really? Are you serious? You could have just told her. It wasn't a big deal at all. But just like Eddie he did have his good parts in the story.
CULLER: He at first seemed like a sweet guy but at the end when he tells Eddie about what he did, I was just very frustrated with him. He could have helped himself and Eddie using a different tactic. Though he was a very nice, sweet, caring, and kind guy during the beginning and middle.
As you can see, this book's characters just weren't my favorite.
I still really liked this book and sped through it very quickly. :)
This book is about a girl named Regina Afton. She was part of the most popular group in school. That is until rumors start going around about her and her best friend's boyfriend. When this happens her best friend Anna kicks her out of the group. From then on Regina gets bullied constantly. She finds company with a boy named Micheal Hayden. He was a boy that Regina used to bully all the time. This book goes through with what happens with Micheal and how Regina deals with all the bullying.
THE PLOT:
The plot of this book was great. Bullying is a huge problem in every school. I loved how this book expressed how horrible it is to be bullied. It's something you will never foreget. It also shows you what notto do when you get bullied. Fight back.
THE CHARACTERS:
REGINA:She really frustrated me sometimes. When Anna and her group bully her, she fights back hard. She should have ignored them or reported them. When she fought back, things got more worse that it already was. I also really liked her at the same time. She tried to make amends for everything that she has done wrong and I thought that was a really strong characteristic.
MICHEAL: He was the sweetest boy ever. At first he doesn't forgive Regina at all for what she's done to him, but you can tell he's warming up to Regina.
ANNA:She was a HUGE bitch. I didn't want to swear but that is what she is. She believed rumors over her best friend. That is not a best friend. You should always belive your best friend over rumors unless your friend's untrustworthy but that's a whole nother topic.
Over all this book was absolutely amazing. You need to read this if you haven't yet.
This was a very interesting book. It was really good. I hate to say this but I liked the Unicorn stories better than the Zombie ones. I didn't want to say it since all my favorite authors were on team Zombie. :( The Zombie stories were at some points really weird, gross, and awkward. I only really liked one and that was Cold Hands by Cassandra Clare.
My favorite one out of all of them would have to be The Care And Feeding of Your Baby Killer Unicorn by Diana Peterfruend. I was glad I liked this one since I had never actually heard of Diana Peterfruend. I'm not going to go into specifics, but if you want you can watch the Youtube review at the bottom. :)I really liked this book because you get a taste of what each author's writing style is. Each story is very different from the others. I would definitely recommend this book to you guys. Plus the introduction to the book was very enjoyable to read and so were the intros to each story. They had me laughing through out it! :) This was a really short review... hmm... Oh well.
"When dark creeps in and eats the light, Bury your fears on Sorry Night. For in the winter's blackest hours, Comes the feasting of the Vours, No one can see it, the life they stole, Your body's here but not your soul..."
THE VOURS: Evil, demonic beings that inhabit human bodies on Sorry Night, the darkest hours of the winter solstice.
When Reggie reads about the Vours in a mysterious old journal, she assumes they are just the musings of an anonymous lunatic. But when her little brother, Henry, begins to act strangely, it's clear that these creatures exist beyond a madwoman's imagination, and Reggie finds out what happens when fears come to life.
To save the people she loves, Reggie must learn to survive in a world of nightmares. Can she devour her own fears before they devour her?
The Devouring is an engrossing tale of terror that will have you wondering: what if your worst fears became your living nightmare?
MY REVIEW:
Oh my god! This book was definitely a really scary one! I really enjoyed it and I hate scary stuff! That definitely tells you that this was a really good one for me. It's about these things called 'Vours' and they come to you and the 'devour' your fears. But then when they 'devour' your fears they go into your body so your soul isn't in your body and the Vours just kind of take over your body. Reggie's brother Henry gets taken by a Vour so Reggie and her friend Aaron have to save him and face their own fears.
PLOT:
The plot was very nicely written out. I loved the idea of this book and how the author took the idea of 'fear' and made it into a story. It definitely had parts where I just wanted to gag because it was either scary or gross. But don't let that make you not want to read it. I still really enjoyed it.
CHARACTERS:
REGGIE: I felt like she was a great main character. She was very brave since she faced all of her fears to go and save her brother Henry. Though there was one specific part where I thought that she was a little ignorant.
HENRY: He is Reggie's little brother. You really don't get much of him since he is taken over by a Vour the entire book.
AARON: He is Reggie's best friend. I loved Aaron. He was such a great and loyal best friend. He helped Reggie with everything she needed help with and he was always there for her.
In a single moment, everything changes. Seventeen-year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall riding along the snow-wet Oregonroad with her family. Then, in a blink, she finds herself watching as her own damaged body is taken from the wreck...
A sophisticated, layered, and heartachingly beautiful story about the power of family and friends, the choices we all make—and the ultimate choice Mia commands.
My Review:
I really enjoyed this book. It was kind of confusing at first though. Mia is in a horrible car accident with her parents and brother Teddy. While Mia is unconscious some part of her comes out of her so she can see what's going on in real life while she is unconscious (If that made sense). The story kind of goes through what's going on in real life, while Mia is telling you happy parts of her life before the car accident.
Plot:
The plot was very interesting. It was cool to read about Mia in the present time AND in the past through memories. The only thing that it was lacking was some happiness. I know it's supposed to be a sad book, but I thought it could have some happy stuff.
Characters:
MIA- I enjoyed this book a lot because of Mia. She was a great character. I felt like I could relate to her. She is a big music person. She plays the cello very well. I play piano and violin so I enjoy music as well.
ADAM- He is Mia's boyfriend. He is the complete opposite of Mia but that's what made me love them as a couple. They balanced each other out. He is also into music but he is more into rock and pop.
KIM- She is Mia's friend. You don't really pick up much of her but you can already tell she's a caring friend. :)
